Charlie graduated from Sydney University in 1976 and trained in gastroenterology in the UK and Sydney. He has worked as a gastroenterologist in Eastwood since 1984. He is a VMO at Concord Hospital and does a regular endoscopy list there as well as having inpatient and teaching responsibilities. He also has appointments at Macquarie University Hospital, North shore Private Hospital and Pennant Hills Day Surgery. Charlie has an interest in inflammatory bowel disease and oesophageal disorders.
Dr Chris Kiely is a specialist gastroenterologist and endoscopist, with expertise in the investigation and treatment of all diseases of the digestive tract and an interest in inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr Kiely studied medicine at Sydney University and completed advanced training in gastroenterology at Royal North Shore Hospital. He developed a special interest in the field of inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis)during his elective year in Canberra Hospital and fellowship year at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, UK.
His PhD thesis forcuses on the microbiome of patients with IBD. He has published articles and abstracts on IBD, hepatitis B, autoimmune hepatitis, endoscopy (PEG tubes) and Clostridium difficile infection.
Chris most recently worked for two years in Timor-Leste, where he set up the country’s only endoscopy unit and established treatment for hepatitis B. He will be performing procedures at Macquarie University Hospital, North Shore Private Hospital and the Mater Hospital.
Dr Wiseman is a female specialist gastroenterologist who has worked at Eastwood Gastrointestinal Specialists since 2009. She performs procedures at Macquarie University Hospital and Pennant Hills Day Surgery and collaborates with other specialists in the multidisciplinary Macquarie University Liver Cancer Care team. She also works in the liver clinics at Concord Hospital to provide specialist liver care.
Dr Wiseman undertook her medical training at the University of Sydney and she graduated with Honours. Her general medical and physician’s training was completed while working at Royal North Shore, Concord, Liverpool and Gosford Hospitals. She attained fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2008 and has established herself working in the Ryde-Concord-Macquarie areas.
Prior to studying medicine, she studied for a Bachelor degree in Medical Science and, after completing a thesis investigating the role of glycaemic index in the development of diabetes, she graduated with Honours. She has continued to have an interest in research, having published in peer-reviewed medical journals in the areas of liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease and cancer.
Dr Wiseman knows the importance of listening to her patient’s problems and she offers practical advice and management of common gastrointestinal complaints such as constipation, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, bleeding from the bowel, jaundice, reflux and bloating. She has an interest in treating patients with irritable bowel syndrome, liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease and those requiring bowel cancer screening.
Dr Wiseman performs endoscopic procedures including gastroscopy and colonoscopy at the state-of-the-art Macquarie University Hospital and Pennant Hills Day Surgery where the most up to date equipment and practices are available. She collaborates closely with other specialists from Macquarie University Hospital and Concord Hospital. She is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) and has been accredited for colonoscopy and gastroscopy by the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy with recent voluntary reaccreditation recert.gesa.org.au/recertified.php with 100% colonoscopy completion rate and 52% adenoma detection rate (average is 44%).

Dr Neomal (Nemes) Sandanayake graduated in medicine from The University of Sydney in 1998, undergoing his physician and gastroenterology training at Royal Prince Alfred, Concord and Royal North Shore Hospitals between 1998 and 2005. He moved to the United Kingdom in 2006 for an endoscopy Fellowship at University College London Hospital, and between 2007 and 2010 undertook research in pancreatic and bile duct cancer for which he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine by The University of Sydney.
Nemes is a Visiting Medical Officer at Royal North Shore, North Shore Private, Macquarie University and The Mater Hospitals. He has previously been a Staff Specialist in Hepatology at Concord Hospital.
He is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia. He regularly attends meetings in Australia and overseas, is active in research in gastrointestinal cancer, and has published original works. He is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at The University of Sydney and at Royal North Shore Hospital.
He has certification in endoscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP, and is interested in all aspects of gastroenterology and hepatology.

Dr Tattersall studied medicine at the University of Sydney and graduated with honours in 2001. After becoming a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians he spent 2 years pursuing his interest in inflammatory bowel disease as a Senior Fellow at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, UK.
Dr Tattersall has published in peer-reviewed medical journals on topics including inflammatory bowel disease, viral hepatitis, chronic pancreatitis, helicobacter pylori and iron deficiency. He has participated in multi-national trials of novel treatments for inflammatory bowel disease. He has pursued his interest in research through a masters degree in clinical epidemiology at the University of Sydney.
