Dr McDonald graduated from Sydney University in 1976 and trained in gastroenterology in the UK and Sydney. He has worked as a gastroenterologist in the Eastwood and Concord areas since 1984.
Dr McDonald is an expert in the management of complex gastrointestinal disorders and is often called on for second opinions by his colleagues. He has a particular interest in the management of inflammatory bowel disease and oesophageal disorders.
Dr McDonald was a consulting VMO at Concord Hospital for more than 30 years and was very active in the life of the hospital with inpatient and teaching responsibilities. He retired from Concord Hospital in October 2020 but continues to appointments Macquarie University Hospital, North Shore Private Hospital and Pennant Hills Day Surgery. He is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) and has been accredited for colonoscopy and gastroscopy by the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
