Dr McDonald graduated from Sydney University in 1976 and trained in gastroenterology in the UK and Sydney. He has worked as a gastroenterologist in the Eastwood and Concord areas since 1984.
Dr McDonald is an expert in the management of complex gastrointestinal disorders and is often called on for second opinions by his colleagues. He has a particular interest in the management of inflammatory bowel disease and oesophageal disorders.
Dr McDonald has been a consulting VMO at Concord Hospital for more than 30 years and is very active in the life of the hospital. At Concord, he has inpatient and teaching responsibilities and undertakes regular endoscopic lists. Dr McDonald also has appointments Macquarie University Hospital, North Shore Private Hospital and Pennant Hills Day Surgery. He is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) and has been accredited for colonoscopy and gastroscopy by the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
