Dr Kiely studied medicine at Sydney University, graduating in 2008. He subsequently undertook specialist training in gastroenterology at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, gaining fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2014. During this time, he developed a special interest in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). This was further refined over two years while working at Canberra Hospital and in the United Kingdom, where he was the senior clinical fellow in IBD at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. He is currently completing a PhD focussed on IBD through the Australian National University and has multiple peer-review publications in this area.
Dr Chris Kiely is a specialist gastroenterologist and endoscopist, with expertise in the investigation and treatment of all diseases of the digestive tract and an interest in inflammatory bowel disease. He is an active researcher in the field of gastroenterology and has presented at national and international medical conferences. He has published multiple articles and abstracts in peer-reviewed medical journals on subjects such as the microbiome in inflammatory bowel disease, pregnancy in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, novel treatments for autoimmune hepatitis, hepatitis B virus treatment, acetarsol for the treatment of refractory proctitis, the safety of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tubes (PEG tubes), bowel cancer diagnosis and Clostridium difficile infection.
Dr Kiely performs procedures at Macquarie University Hospital, North Shore Private Hospital, The Mater Hospital and Pennant Hills Day Surgery. He has a public appointment at Ryde Hospital, adjacent to the consulting rooms, where he has a regular endoscopy list and admits patients. He has professional memberships include fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Gastroenterology Society of Australia and Australia and New Zealand Gastrointestinal Training Association (ANZGITA). He is a clinical tutor in the Medical Doctor programme at Sydney University. Dr Kiely has been accredited for colonoscopy and gastroscopy by the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Chris lives in the Eastern Suburbs with his wife and young daughter and outside of medicine, he enjoys travelling to hard-to-reach places, trying exotic food and scuba diving.
